We're based in New Plymouth and install solar systems for customers right around the mountain. Steve is a qualified electrician so you know you are in safe hands with your new solar system. My background is in the building industry, so I have vast experience to draw on, from designing your solar system to installation.

What interested you and Steve in solar?

We have always been interested in ‘going solar’ but when we built our home we put it in the too hard basket. So that’s a key focus for us, helping customers make an informed decision and cutting through the jargon. Turns out, going solar can be simple!

What solar system did you decide on for your home?

We have recently installed 28x 415W Qcells panels (11.6kW), with a 8.2kW Fronius inverter and Tesla Powerwall.

We have the spa and pool on timers so it will only heat during the day. We ‘load’ our usage to the daytime when the sun is generating power for all our other appliances.

This means we expect our power bill will be in credit all summer long. This gives us a buffer for next winter as well.

Is your solar system and Tesla Powerwall easy to maintain and operate?

We have the Tesla app and it's great! Through the app, you can see how much power generation you have. The app also shows us how much we have sent back to the grid and our history stats. Fronius have an app as well, but once you have Tesla Powerwall installed I tend to look at the Tesla one more as it's pretty fun.

Did you have any design considerations for this installation?

Our home is a mid-century inspired build. I was all about how it would look and Steve is all about how effective, efficient and cost effective it was. So we ended up with the perfect solution - a good sized system and you can’t see our solar panels at all!

We call it “concealed solar”- the solar system is completely concealed and kept flat on the roof. We have avoided tilts, and have added more panels. This gives a far better aesthetic for our specific home style.

We only use dedicated Harrisons Solar installers, so you can be assured of a top quality installation. Swayze and his team in New Plymouth rock! Swayze is a qualified electrician and is very experienced in installing solar.

What would you say to people who are interested in going solar based on your experience?
